Wanna Come?

Next Tuesday, July 8th, at Main Street Stamp and Stationery store in Tigard, Oregon, I'll be instructing to do the birthday set below.  The class will be from 6pm to 8pm.  You'll make the card, the tag and the darling little votive birthday cake.  Isn't that birthday cake darling?!    You'd need to bring your favorite adhesive, plus some glue dots, and your favorite watercolor medium.  I used Tim Holtz's Distress markers and a water brush to color the roses in the sample.   All the rest of the supplies will be provided.  Class cost is $15.  Hope to see you there!

Technique of the Week

Here!  This week the Technique Junkie technique of the week is Splattered Ombre Watercolors.  I thought the orange background would be perfect for the Elizabeth Craft daisy outline.  It is color with copics.  enjoy!     This technique is from the Technique Junkie July newsletter.  You can find out more about the TJ Newsletter by clicking HERE.   If you look real close you can see all the beautiful glitter on the daisy area.  ;-)

Here is a couple of cards using the Embossed Colored pencil technique from the current issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter.  I wish that you could see the shine because it is really pretty!.  The leaves are from Inkadinkado and the words on the first card are from Sweet N Sassy Stamps.

 

 

 

The image on the second card is from I brake for Stamps.  The die on the background is from Memory Box and it is a fun one to use rhinestones or in this case, little pearls.   ENJOY!

Gradient Markers

Artistic Effects now available!

I couldn't choose just one project so I did three! 

 

The first card features a technique called Acrylic Stains.  This is one of those fast and easy techniques that you always have to have in your arsenal.  I've had this cute stamp set from Stampendous for over a year and I thought it was about time to use it.  Summer has FINALLY arrived for most of us.  Winter hung on for sooooo long that I wanted to celebrate with this cute set. 

 

My next project uses the super cool technique called Goosed Gelatos.   I love how random and layered the colors are for the background.  The stamp is from a set from Mark's Finest Papers company.  The sentiment is from SU.  It is colored with Copics.   I have to tell you a little secret about my Gelatos.  FaberCastell makes Gelatos.  You can pay about $9.99 for 4 of them.  BUT, if you go into the kid's section of the art store, there are 10 of them for about $10.  That is a much nicer price.  The Frugal Crafter blog did a test to see if they performed like the more expensive ones and she couldn't see much difference! 

 My last project is probably my favorite of the three.  It features a technique called Acrylic Gesso.  This technique can use a black silhouette stamp but I just didn't want to do black so I drug out my Colorbox cubes......these haven't seen the light of day for years!  The stamp set.........I have no clue.  I store all my unmounted stamps in CD cases and this set was stored before I thought it was important to know the manufacturer!  If you happen to know, let me know!

Textured Monochrome

I always seem like I am a week behind do you?  Last Saturday was my day to post to the Technique Junkie blog......missed it.  Grrr.....    BUT, better late than never, right?    Here is a technique called Textured Monochromes.  I can't say that it is my favorite technique but it was kind of messy fun to do!  I used brass stencils from Dreamweaver and dies from Memory Box.  Add in a few punched designs from a MS butterfly punch and Spellbinders Fancy Label die and I was ready to go!  Hope you enjoy this piece of what my friend, Penny, calls "Messy Art"!  ;-)

Punched Border Flamingo

Today my granddaughters got to spend the evening with us while their parents went to the Blazer playoff game here in Portland.  I needed to make a card for the Technique Junkie blog today so I enlisted their help.

They chose the image, then the colors and the border punch.  I colored the image and added the stenciling.  They helped color the prima flowers with the copic air brush system and voila! and darling bird-day card!

I hope you enjoy.  My favorite part is the stenciling.

I'm Back and it is time for a Hop!

Now for my projects!  My first card uses a technique called Irresistible Rainbow.  If you look close you can see the lighter image in the background (easy to see on the blue side).  It was a really fun technique and easy to use with so many different backgrounds!  The background stamp is from Stampin' Up and the Words are from Wordsmith.

 

 

 

My second card showcases a technique called Outlined Resist.  This technique gives you that Decorated Paper look.  The background stamp is from Technique Junkie Stamps (formerly Stamp Camp) and the Words are Stampin Up.

Now for some extra news about my big car event.  Some of you may remember that my car club was trying to break a Guinness world record for the Most Mustangs/Fords in a Parade in order to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang.  Well, our event was on April 12, 2014 and we had a fabulous turnout!!  The old record was 620 Mustangs/Fords in a Parade.  Our paperwork is going off to Guinness soon and if they accept it, our attempt broke the old record!!  We had 829 cars on our parade that started AND returned.  Of those, 766 were Mustangs!!!   It was a wonderful event and counting the Mustangs in spectator parking (we had to close registration) we had well over 1000 Mustangs at our event site.  It was a lot of eye candy for car buffs!!

 

A Little "Off"

Today's card uses the technique called Dye Whitewash from the August 2013 issue.  I had a couple of friends over for a Friday stamp day and we decided to give this technique a try.  I really love the subtle color that it gives to the image.  While playing with the technique, we used my friend's white detail embossing powder.

Tonight as I finished the card up with a sentiment, I grabbed my white detail embossing powder.  Who knew that White Detail embossing powder would have different whites.  Sheesh!  Mine is more "Off" white than real white.  So.....what was I to do.....my sentiment was Off White and the image was White.....       So, I decided to make the card base and the butterflies in off white as well so that it didn't look like a mistake.  It worked out fairly well, making the image popping more from the card.

Mustang Parade and a Sale

So....you may have been wondering where all my posting has gone.  Well........the volunteer job with our car club for a major event has me busy EVERY day doing something on it.

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang, we are trying to set a Guinness World Record with the most Mustangs (and/or Fords) in a parade.  The event is on April 12, 2014 at the Woodburn, OR Dragstrip.    We only have about 1/3 of the needed registrations right now and I am reaching out to you, my readers, to help me spread the word. 

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!  I know....it isn't card related.....but I could still use your help!!  Could you do a little mini post on your own blogs to let your Pacific Northwest readers know about the event?  I would love you forever if you could do that!  I know that many of you have readers from all over the nation (and world) so if the message reaches a few in my area it would benefit the event greatly!!  Ask them to forward on as well!

Forever

It seems like forever since I've posted anything.  Life and commitments have been so fast and furious that getting in a little carding has been difficult.

Here is a card that I made up for my granddaughter's birthday.  She LOVES horses.  The image is from Rubberstampave.  The background is a Technique Junkie technique called Bingo Blast.  My friend and I really did have a blast making backgrounds.  You can see some of the shimmer in the photo as I used Twinkling H20 type daubers.  The gold is so pretty in real life.

Alooooooha!

We are now back from a most wonderful celebration of our 40th anniversary.  We were in Honolulu, Kauai, and Maui.  We took a gazillion pictures.......I haven't even had the chance to weed through them yet.  I'll probably just plop in a few here and there as we go through them. 

The first day we were at the condo in Maui (Oct 21), we thought we snorkel on the beach right across the street to practice before our snorkeling trip the next day.  Having never snorkeled before, we thought it would be a good time to get used to the equipment.  Long story short........I got washed into a shallow reef by a wave and in the effort to push myself away from the reef, my index finger (right hand) came into contact with a black sea urchin.  I said some very choice words into my snorkel.  So....bleeding and hurting I go back to the room and google how to treat myself.  Got Vinegar to soak my finger in (you could see the black poison under the skin) followed by hot water.  Repeat.....   Did that for two days and the finger was feeling pretty good.  It wasn't until we were flying home on the 29th that it began to swell.  The doctor said that this is typical when you have had tissue trauma......okay for a while then it rebels.   I had gone to urgent care and they put me on two different antibiotics.  She told me that if the redness and/or swelling got worse to go to the ER.   At that time the swelling and pain were to the first joint.  By the next morning,  it was swollen past the second joint so I went to ER.  They did an ultrasound to make sure there was no puss and no spines left.  None of either....so, an IV of antibiotics and a different prescription of antibiotic to take the place of one of the ones the DR prescribed the day before.  Sheesh!  But, I am hoping that everything is healing up now.    Not how I planned to end my vacation. 

Anyways........back to some stamping information.  RubberStampMadness magazine is ready for their newest issue to hit the shelves.  The cover is shown on my sidebar so you know what to look for.  They are asking for submissions for their summer issue.
