It seems like forever since I've posted anything.  Life and commitments have been so fast and furious that getting in a little carding has been difficult.

Here is a card that I made up for my granddaughter's birthday.  She LOVES horses.  The image is from Rubberstampave.  The background is a Technique Junkie technique called Bingo Blast.  My friend and I really did have a blast making backgrounds.  You can see some of the shimmer in the photo as I used Twinkling H20 type daubers.  The gold is so pretty in real life.

Hope all you readers have a Wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow!

We are now back from a most wonderful celebration of our 40th anniversary.  We were in Honolulu, Kauai, and Maui.  We took a gazillion pictures.......I haven't even had the chance to weed through them yet.  I'll probably just plop in a few here and there as we go through them.

The first day we were at the condo in Maui (Oct 21), we thought we snorkel on the beach right across the street to practice before our snorkeling trip the next day.  Having never snorkeled before, we thought it would be a good time to get used to the equipment.  Long story short........I got washed into a shallow reef by a wave and in the effort to push myself away from the reef, my index finger (right hand) came into contact with a black sea urchin.  I said some very choice words into my snorkel.  So....bleeding and hurting I go back to the room and google how to treat myself.  Got Vinegar to soak my finger in (you could see the black poison under the skin) followed by hot water.  Repeat.....   Did that for two days and the finger was feeling pretty good.  It wasn't until we were flying home on the 29th that it began to swell.  The doctor said that this is typical when you have had tissue trauma......okay for a while then it rebels.   I had gone to urgent care and they put me on two different antibiotics.  She told me that if the redness and/or swelling got worse to go to the ER.   At that time the swelling and pain were to the first joint.  By the next morning,  it was swollen past the second joint so I went to ER.  They did an ultrasound to make sure there was no puss and no spines left.  None of, an IV of antibiotics and a different prescription of antibiotic to take the place of one of the ones the DR prescribed the day before.  Sheesh!  But, I am hoping that everything is healing up now.    Not how I planned to end my vacation.

Anyways........back to some stamping information.  RubberStampMadness magazine is ready for their newest issue to hit the shelves.  The cover is shown on my sidebar so you know what to look for.  They are asking for submissions for their summer issue.

MUSIC is one of the themes for the Summer 2014 issue of RSM. We'd love to see what you stamp on this topic. Perhaps include your favorite song or musical instrument, singer, band or orchestra in your artwork. JEWELRY is the second themeWe will publish a variety of stamped jewelry. Click here for details: Note: If it's easier to send in a jpg of the jewelry, rather than the original piece, send that to  Dec.10 is the final postmark date or e-mail date for artwork submissions.

I've been published a number of times in is easy to submit, give it a try!

Now for a few Maui Sunsets!

My Bendi Card

Over at Splitcoaststampers, they had a tutorial for a Bendi card.  What a fun card to make.  Their tutorial had a spring theme.  Mine is very similar but mine has a Thanksgiving theme.  I know that the Keep Calm saying is really popular right now so I created a Keep Calm and Give Thanks cutout with my silhouette.  The cornstalks, pumpkins, and vines were also cut files.  The tree and fence are dies from Memory Box.  The grass is a die from Sweet N Sassy Stamps

I hope you enjoy!

Glitter Strips

My granddaughter turned 11 the other day.  For her birthday she got a room makeover from her mom and dad.  The colors are bold and classy!   Dark Aqua and Hot Pink!!  Lots of blue/black or pink/black zebra print and I think some leopard too!  A BIG grownup change from the pretty princesses that we had painted on the wall.  It was really sad to see the princess go........we had soooo many hours into painting them.  BUT her room looks more grown up just like she does!

I made this card for her to match the colors of her room.  The sticker (cupcake) is a removable sticker that she can put on her mirror.  If you go to Youtube and search for Elizabeth Craft, then look for the repositionable sticker video, she'll show you all about making them.  They are really easy and fun!!

After I made my granddaughter's card, I made another to have for my stash!

Life beyond stamping

Life since last October has been quite busy.  I belong to a local car club that is trying to do something historical!!!  We want to break a Guinness world record with the Most Ford Mustangs in a Parade.  Right now the record is 620 Mustangs in a parade and it was set in Canada.  We need to get the record back down to the US!!

Our committee has been working sooo hard but it is hard to get the word out when your advertising budget is almost nothing.  We are operating on a shoestring and the budget for the event is almost $34K!!!!!

So......stamping peeps.....would you be willing to help us out?

Our webpage for the event is     Registration info is there along with lots of FAQS.

We also have a Facebook page at :   Could you please like our page and share it with your friends.

The event will be in Woodburn, Oregon next April but we will have to fish or cut bait on the 25th of October!!

We need Ford Mustangs of all years and running condition.  They don't have to be show cars.  In fact, I think our biggest numbers will have to come from J Q Public. a girl a favor?  Please pass on the word!!

Here is a picture of our event shirt.  Available in white or black, Regular, Ladies V or Sweatshirt!

Simply framed

Good Morning!  Here with a easy, quick technique from the August/Sept Technique Junkie newsletter.  This is a technique called simply framed.  If you need a card with lots of pop and without layers (for mailing), this is a great technique.   Since the card was white, it tended to disappear on the blog post, so I created a black digital border.

The flower and swirl are by Stampendous.  I was tickled to use the flower.  It was the first time that stamp has seen ink!  The butterfly is from Sweet & Sassy Stamps.  They are a TJ advertiser and right now they are in the middle of one of their new releases!  Head on over there and check it out!!

Flocked Lines

Here is a submission to one of the techniques of the week from the recent Technique Junkie newsletter....Flocked Lines.  I was searching through my stamps for one that I wanted to use for this technique when this Hampton arts stamp jumped out at me.  It just seemed perfect for the technique even though it wasn't a flourish like some of the samples.  Wanted to keep it CAS since the flocking is really the star!!  Instead of gluing on the ribbon, I punched to small holes in the cardstock and tied it on.  You know it won't fall off that way!!

Hope you enjoy!

Handmade paper

Here is a card made with some handmade paper.....a technique from the most recent Technique Junkie newsletter.  Pretty cool way to get some handmade stuff without all the special stuff!!   It took a little longer to dry than I anticipated.  I used Distress Inks to ink and some postage stamps from my neglected stamp box.  Hope you enjoy!!

Pressed Stains

No........I'm not ironing!!  Pressed Stains is a super fun technique from the most recent issue of the Technique Junkie newsletter.  I had a friend over.........Laura and I had a lot of fun.  She brought a hostess stamp set from SU and we colored up the Flower with copics.  Then we made the backgrounds to match the flowers.  I had one flower already colored up from the week before and had put a blue background around it.  The backgrounds we had made didn't have any blue and it looked really funny with them.  So......I made another background using a little blue and it was just perfect.  I love how every background is just a little different.  I hope you enjoy!  I included all four....I just couldn't decide which one I wanted to do the most!  Sorry...the scan was a little off.  The Hero Arts sentiment stamp had stamped the edge under the words and I thought it looked like it was supposed to be there so I stamped three more like it.  ;-)

Another Spotty Copic Grid

I love the interest that the Spotty Copic Grid gives to the background.  The dies are from Memory Box and can be found here (classy cards & such) for the birds and here for the tree.
The sentiment is from Sweet N Sassy Stamps.

Okay.....I have NO idea why blogger does this but no matter what orientation I save my card photo, it always tries to insert it into my post rotated incorrectly.  So.......sorry!  Turn your head and pretend it is your neck exercise for the day!

Cool technique from the new newsletter

Spotty Copic Grid is such a fun technique that is in the June/July issue of the Technique Junkie newsletter.  I was really tickled to see that both of my samples for this technique made it into the current printed form of the newsletter..  ;-)  I usually have a ton of layers and have a more complicated card and it was really refreshing to do something more simple!

I used a Memory Box die and SU sentiment.   You can find Memory Box dies HERE!

Hope you enjoy......I'll share one more tomorrow.

Stained Embossing Spoiler

This week's Technique of the Week for Technique Junkies  was Embossed Gelatos but.....since I don't own any of those, I chose a different technique for you from the newest June newsletter!!

I really LOVE this technique.  It really has a lot of interest and it quite easy to do....AND gives a lovely result.  I hope you have a ton of fun playing with it when you get your June newsletter....Only 2 days away!!

This card would be perfect for a man.  No stamping at all!  I've had that fleur de lis punch for AGES and when I grabbed my fleur de lis embossing folder, it just seemed like a match made in heaven!  The fleur de lis circles and the circles behind them are bumped up with foam tape.

We had a wonderful time in Oklahoma with my step-mom.  We were there for her birthday, she turned 97!

It was really stormy when we arrived in Tulsa the Tuesday after the tornado hit Moore.  The plane even slid a little on touchdown.  The weather worked in our favor at the car rental place.  The Taurus we had rented was gone and she had upgraded us to a SUV......but.....we really didn't want an SUV.  It would be harder for Gerry to get into.  So, I looked around....they sure had a lot of Mustang Convertibles sitting around not going anywhere.  So, we said that if we could have it for only $10/day more, we love to have one of those.  The clerk checked and said 'Yes!"  Yeah!!  We had a lot of fun with that convertible.  We even took Gerry out to get ice cream with the top down.  Weather was wonderful for 90% of the the low 80's.  Perfect!    We had a wonderful time getting her little things for her birthday.  We got to sing to her at least three times that day.  Hard to believe she is 97 when you look at her!

Free Papers for you

Today, I was playing around making a background paper for a wedding card.  It was fun playing with different colors.  I used a free graphic from The Graphics Fairy of an old rose.  I recolored it and filled an 8.5 x 11 page with the image then changed it to different colors.  Please feel free to click on the image to enlarge it, right click and 'save as' to use as your own.    Here is a link to the actual rose.

Leaving me a message to say that you grabbed it would be nice but is not required...I know I often don't have time to do that myself!

50th for Lana

My daughter-in-law's mother needed a 50th Wedding anniversary card for her sister.  Since I wanted to play with my Silhouette, I made this card.  I use the Forever & Always file that came with the Silhouette Portrait BUT I do NOT suggest that you try that file.  I used a font that was exactly the same instead.  The portrait file was so slender on parts that it just fell apart.  So.......squishing and squashing the font gave me larger lines and it worked!  On the flip side, the 50 cut effortlessly.  It was hard to get a decent picture since the gold is so mirror like!  I hope that she loves it!  Shocker of all stamping on the front of the card!  I did redeem myself though on the inside with an Happy Anniversary sentiment.  ;-)

Upcoming Class

I'll be teaching a class over at Tigard Main Street and Stationery for the card below and the flower pot card I did from THIS blog post.

If you are in the local area, check out their schedule and come have fun in class!

The flower pot card was explained in the post noted above.  The poppy card turned out much different than it started.  I've had the punches available to do this card for a long time (over 2 years) and finally decided that enough was enough!  I love how delicate the flower looks.  The original card idea I saved with the poppy used a much different center than I did.  I used a large pearl with a smaller black pearl on top of it.

Easy and fun!

Painted rhodies

Here is a card that features the technique of the week for Technique Junkies!  It is the Paint Swatch technique.  I used it as the background for this lovely Blossoms stamp fro Sweet Stamps.  I think the image looks very much like Rhododendrons (which I love).  I stamped the image over the technique and colored in with Copics.  I originally had it colored quite light and it wasn't dark enough to overcome the background.  Then I darkened it and it looked like a I lighted it back up with the blender and all was much better!  The sentiment was cut out with a Nestie.  I traced the Nestie I used for the sentiment onto the shadow paper, hand cut, and mounted under.    Hope you like!

I happened to have my fill of rhodies today!  Ray and I volunteered to man the gate and plant sale at the Cecil Smith Garden in Newberg.  It is a private garden that our Rhododendron Society chapter owns and maintains.  It is 2.5 acres of pure bliss.  Several of the rhodies blooming this weekend are fragrant AND many of them are over 20' tall.  The fragrance wafted throughout the whole garden.  It was heavenly!

Distilled Bones

Well........I was diagnosed with osteoporosis.  Sad........I'm sure that it has mostly to do with exercise and my lack of getting what I need in that realm.

So.......I have a friend, Penny, who recommended a wonderful program called  I've started to work at things I can change to help myself like my diet, exercise, etc.  One of the items that she talks about is distilled water.  She talks about how that kind of water is easier and more pure for you to absorb.

I find this very interesting and am hoping that it helps me as well.  Here is a distiller like my friend, Penny, has.  She is very happy with hers.  Penny was working holistically on her osteoporosis as well.  Thank you, Penny, for your recommendations!!

Click HERE for the Purest Water you can Drink! to be linked to the distiller company that she liked.

I hope that this information helps you as well!

Birdy Bands

This card uses the technique called Inky Bands and happens to be the "Technique of the week" on the Technique Junkie Blog.  I just got the bird stamps in the mail the other day.  It was kind of fun........I was asked to participate in an online survey.....took about 20 minutes.  As a reward, I was given an Amazon $25 gift card.......there was a code that I entered on the Amazon site that credited me with the $25 card.  SWEET!  So.....I went shopping the other some embossing tools (so I have a few more for my upcoming flower class), some Fiskar scissors and this Fiskars bird stamp set!  I'm really not a fan of the acrylic stamps but with the right stamp pad, they are okay.  I guess I'm just a real red rubber girl!

Hope you enjoy (Pun....hahahaha) the card!  The inky bands kind of reminded me of branches so the bird were just a natural!

Another Snippet

Here is another Snippet card.  This uses a stamp from a set from Mark's Finest Papers.  I wasn't quite happy with my lines on the flower but ended up using it anyway!  I've used this stamp a number of times and you can always make it look so different.  The set is called Sending Happy Thoughts and also has a wonderful Rose faux stamp which I really love.

Pansies and violets are some of my favorite flowers.........after Rhododendrons that is!!  I remember with great fondness the wonderful Violet perfume that my grandmother brought back to me from England many years ago.  You can still get it but the cute little violet on the front of the bottle isn't hand painted anymore.

Cardinal Snippets

This is a card made with a technique called Snippets from the April TJ newsletter.  This sweet stamp is from Sweet N Sassy Stamps.  She has a several bird stamps and I like that this one as it could be a cardinal or maybe even a jay!  I went with Cardinal because of the berries!

I grew up in Ohio and loved the cardinals.  Unfortunately, they don't live in Oregon.  When we visited my step-mom in Oklahoma it was soooooo beautiful to hear their call again.

Another Copic Color Double Embossing

Here is another Copic Color Double Embossing card using Sweet Stamps!  BTW......I hear that they are having a DT call and they are really reasonable in their committment requirements and very generous in the perks!  Check it out on their main page!

This card uses a Sweet Stamps stamp that they call blossoms.  The leaves are a little wrong but it looks enough like Rhododendrons to really float my boat!  We are members of the American Rhododendron Society and have hundreds of them on our 5 acres.    What you are seeing on this card is only a portion of the full stamp.

Copic Color Double Embossing

I just love this Butterfly stamp from Sweet Stamps!  It's bold image is really great for coloring in!  The background piece is a technique from the April 2013 Technique Junkie newsletter called Copic Color Double Embossing.  I used fairly pale colors for this and was a great backdrop for the butterfly!

Another blackboard technique

Here is another blackboard technique from the new April TJ newsletter.  I'm not as fond of this one but is was fun to make just the same!   The background stamp is brand new for me from Sweet Stamps!  Love that little image!!! you like my new Pinterest button?

Blackboard Technique

The April issue of the Technique Junkie newsletter is OUT!  Yeah!!  Here is a card made with the blackboard technique from that issue.  It is really fun to do.  Finding the sentiments I wanted to use was the hardest part.

I also got a Pinterest button added for your convenience!   It took me a while to understand how to do it but I succeeded!  I just wish I could shrink the image just a little!

Pat - Technique Junkie Owner

There are no prizes with this hop but there is a TON of inspiration.

Now.....on to the fun!!  I hope you enjoyed Judy's projects at the beginning of the hop.  She always has the best ideas.

I have two projects for you from each CD......

My first project is from the Move It CD and it is called the Z Fold Over Card.  I made it as an Easter card for my in-laws.  It uses peel off stickers from Elizabeth Craft along with her Cool Highlight Microfine glitter.  It was colored with copics.  I also used Elizabeth Craft stickers for the corners and borders.  I am truly in love with her products!

The first picture is the card closed.  To open it you untie the ribbon.

This is how the card looks when it is opened.

Here is a close up of the glitter/colored sticker on the front.  It has some 3-D going on!

The second project is from the Shape It CD.  It called a flower pot card.  It was a blast to make.  I used a number of Spellbinders dies and some Punch Bunch punches for the flowers.  Spellbinders die for the foliage and a little bit of glitter to glitz it up!  You could use stamped flowers instead if you wanted.

Okay......I have a disclaimer for this picture.  I tried at least a dozen times in many different ways to get this picture to be rotated 90 degrees to the right but blogspot just would NOT put it in the right, please tilt your head to the left to see it the right way!  Hahahahaahahaha.

I hope that you enjoyed my two projects!  Leave me a little bit of love in the comment area!

Now you can be off to the next blog on the hop!

My art class with Megan

I signed up for an art class with Megan Suarez....what FUN!!  If you are interested, see the Whimsy Girl badge to the side.  Here are the girls I drew and colored from the first two lessons.  The next two work with the girls in journals and on canvas.  She taught us how she draws her Whimsey girls and then we put our own spin on them.  enjoy!!
