Better late than never

I made this card for my grand-daughter's 2nd birthday.........last October......okay it is being posted a little late but better late than never.  Her birthday, of course, centered around Frozen.  Her cousin also had a Frozen party and the card I made for her will be posted another day!

The background of this card has four colors of glitter and it very sparkly in person.  Wish the computer screen has a sparkle button!

A Juliette owl

Now that my new oily blog (www.essentialoils-family.com) is off and running, I finally had a little bit of time to create.  I'm a bit behind on my Lifebook lessons so I chose one of my favorite lessons to start getting myself back on track.  Juliette Crane's lesson on her darling owl was so much fun......a little bit of finger painting thrown in as well as brush.  I wish I had time to play and do more of these!  I'm thinking that if I shrink it down and printed it up, I can make some cards with this image.  The open space on the left would be perfect for some sentiment!  Hope you enjoy!

Back to our regularly scheduled program!

Thank you for putting up with my oily posts!  When you start a new adventure you are naturally excited about it.  BUT.......let's get back to some art!!  Below is a picture of the thank you card I made for the donors for the trophies at our Rhododendron Society flower show.  I'm in charge of soliciting the funds, purchasing the trophies and conducting the judging at our two shows.    Each year I make a thank you card for each of them.  The postage stamp on this card is a copy of an actual stamp, enlarged, printed and embossed with clear.  I made it clean and simple this year.  I hope you enjoy!

My Oily website is live!

My daughter and I worked super hard to get our Oily website up and running and we are done!

We would LOVE if you came and looked it over!  There is an option to sign up for e-mail notifications there as well.     We created it to share our love of the oils and how we use them.

We just have a few posts up and running now but will be putting more on at least once to twice a week.   Our next post will be tomorrow morning and will feature my daughter's testimony about a troublesome spot on her eyelid and how her moisturizer recipe helped it!

I'm getting Oily!!

Lifebook 2015 Tree of Life

My Tree of Life (which was a bonus lesson) became a Tree of Love instead!  The little swinging girl in the lesson had her hair flowing forward and her legs going back.  Well......to me that meant that she was swinging back.  So, I changed her since I want my little girl swinging forward.  I'm moving forward in my art so I wanted her to be doing the same.  I remember seeing some car commercials recently where these transparent hearts were fading in and out along the top of the screen.  So, I thought that instead of the lesson's stars in the tree, I would use the hearts instead.  In real life, there is some glitter around the hearts and it is very sparkly.    I wasn't too pleased with the face, having painted over my attempts three times.  Augh!

Lifebook 2015 - Week 8

This week was a lesson on some abstract art.  I guess my mind is just not wired to do abstract.  I followed the lesson and just let the painting take me where it would.  It turned into a landscape.  Hahahaha.  Well, somewhat of an abstract landscape.  Part of the lesson was to use gold leaf.  Since I had gold foiling from rubber stamping, I thought I'd use it since I seldom do! 

I gilded the boat, then used a foil that was multi-colored on the flowers on the bank, the flags of the boat, then the upper left corner.    The boat just seemed to be.....there........so to make it look like it had come from somewhere, I added some glitter glue behind it.  I'm pleased with what it morphed into but one of these days I really need to try abstract again!

Lifebook 2015 - Week 7

Magical Mystery Tour class had your house of love on your head.  I guess it is always on my mind!  We were supposed to leave the top right of the roof unglued so we could stick in little slips of paper with our words on it.  I forgot.....   So, I put the heart with the words on it instead.   I wish I could redo the hearts coming out of the chimney.....don't like them.  Since my hair is white and my eyes blue, I made the person under the house to look like me!  ;-)  Hope you enjoy.  It was fun and fairly quick to make.

Copic Manual

A number of years ago I was certified as a Copic instructor.  It didn't take me long to figure out that I wanted to teach classes.  So I took the Beginning class the second time to learn how to teach it.  After spending a LOT of time, I developed my own teaching manual for a three hour beginning class.  Over the last 4.5 years I've taught 100's of students and all who took the class were so pleased.  Now you can learn too!  You won't have the one on one that you would get in the class but you can have the instruction without the travel and extra cost.  I have a .pdf of my manual for sale for $10.

About 2.5 years ago, I also took the Intermediate Copic certification class.  Since that class I have taught an Advanced class.  The Advanced class manual also for sale for $10.

Lifebook 2015 Week 5

If you are wondering how week 6 got before week 5, it is because I just couldn't wrap my brain around how I wanted to attack the lesson.  The original lesson used a doily and I use the ones that I have so that was out.  Decided to use a stencil with thick gesso, then that blank expanse of white paper just stared at me in all its defiance!  I finally saw a few other examples that made me make the jump and put paint on the white! 

I used Distress paint daubers all over the background and blended with my finger and a little extra water.  The darker color didn't collect around the stencil like I hoped so I actually ended up lining around the raised areas.  The dauber that really ramped it up with the Burnished Bronze (I think that's the color).  It is a beautiful metallic that gave it an aged look.  The scratchy look around the outer edge of the dream catcher are words that are scribbly written.  Words that I want the catcher to keep and not get to me!  ;-)

Lifebook 2015 - Week 6 - Seeds of Love

When I saw a painting using this technique from Tamara Laporte I asked her if she had a class for it.  She said LIFEBOOK!  This class is the whole reason I signed up for the class.  I did love the lesson.

Paint....Paint is a really new medium for me and I can say that I truly do NOT have a handle on how to use it yet.  I can see that it will take a LOT of time!!  My blending skills are beginner.  My doodling skills are........pre-school...    My brain has a lot of wonderful ideas that my hands just can't seem to get right yet!!  But I'm growing and each new lesson helps me to learn how to use this new medium.

Lifebook 2015 Week 5 Bonus

This week had two lessons and I wasn't done with the first part yet but completed the bonus so am showing it to you here.  The teacher showed us how to draw a feather.  We added words and doodles to make it our Affirmation Feather.  I loved this lesson so much.  I did learn that some of the supplies I used did not give the same result as the teacher's supplies so I want to do this over again to get a better result.  One of the gals in our class used her software to reverse the colors of her artwork.  Cool Beans!!  I included several of my other art pieces reversed for fun.

Lifebook Week 4

Well....I'm a little behind on my Lifebook art work but am hopefully catching up.  This Courage dear heart ballerina was intimidating for me!  I put her off for a good week using housework as my excuse.  I like the way she came out.  If you had a x-ray machine, you would see that she has two additional faces tucked under the paint.  I just couldn't get her the way I wanted!  The skirt was really fun to do.  I painted it dark purple with bright green over, then used a catalyst to scribe in the dark lines.  Then over painted with lighter colors and dots, lots of Pitt white pen dots and fluff swirls. 

Yup.....took courage this week but I did it!!

Lifebook 2015 Week 3

I hope you enjoy this piece!  The sentiment is sooo true!  The lesson involved using your Tombow watercolor pens but my stash has dwindled over the years and so I used watercolor paints instead.  I only have one of those little palettes with hard squares of paint and it is obvious that tubes would be much easier to mix colors!  I also need WAY more practice with watercolors!  I have LOTS of mistakes in this piece and overworked it quite a bit.  But, hey....that is part of the learning process, right?  Joanne Sharpe was our teacher this week and we were learning about using lettering in our art.  It was a very fun lesson!  I changed up the words and the flower from the original lesson...made it my own that way! This is 12 x 9 on 140lb cold press watercolor paper. 

LifeBook 2015!!!

A present I gave myself this year was ART!  Lifebook 2015 by Tamara LaPorte was just the ticket!  An art lesson every week for the entire year.  One of my resolutions was to have one art day a week.  I hope to accomplish that!  BUT.....even if I fall short.....I should have a number of weeks to count as success! 

This week the lesson was on your Beacon of Light.  With over 2,000 people taking the class, there are a lot of different ideas of what that looks like.  Since the Lord God is mine, my project included him in it! 

The middle panel of the 'dress' completes the upper portion of a cross.  There are crosses adorning the rays from her head.  This project didn't come about without problems and learning areas!  I learned that when using a paint pen, always test it on scrap paper first to avoid a blob on your artwork.  Then I learned that several layers of gesso can cover up what is left over from the blob that you tried to remove.  It took a lot of time to reverse the error but lesson learned!  I learned that using gold ColorBox ink on your artwork doesn't always work as it doesn't dry well leaving ink that can smudge.  I learned that you don't have to tilt the head too much to really be tilted.......over achieved on that one.  I learned that perfectionism wasn't necessary in this lesson......hard to overcome.  I can see that I need to learn how to blend better and how much water is the right amount to blend and to dry brush!
